BTrack - Fuel Flow Driver Information Display

Specialist vehicle tracking experts Btrack came to us with a requirement to design an AIC information unit that would interface to a fuel flow meter.
DESIGN
Designed to be fitted to HGVs and vans, the unit had to have a display bright enough for daytime viewing and automatically dim for night time use so it didn't dazzle the drivers’ vision.
In addition to the display of fuel flow, the unit displayed road speed, fuel used per distance travelled, driving time and idling time. Parameters required to give the operator feedback on driving style so as to improve fuel efficiency.
The unit stores allowed for data recording, with values being written to a USB memory stick for analysis. This function was sold as an added feature so a method was developed of enabling this function on each meter individually.
A graphics module enabled us to use large characters for the main parameter display and a simple keypad and menu structure were used, allowing the driver to concentrate on his main task.
